Chinese ink and color with burn marks on layered rice paper

In Secluded in Cloudy Mountain, Wang reimagines traditional Chinese landscape painting by replacing conventional and highly esteemed ink brushwork with burned marks on layered rice paper. Through this unconventional technique, he "paints" the landscape not by depicting it directly, but by creating it through the voids left behind by the burned incense. Wang uses absence as a potent visual and conceptual tool. While the title and composition honor past masters of the Chinese literati school of landscape painting, the work’s charred marks introduce a contemporary sensibility—preserving tradition while quietly disrupting it.
