Folding the Hudson is a site-specific installation that transforms glass marbles into a flowing, suspended form inspired by the Hudson River and the winding waterways of New York. Sweeping across the ceiling of the space, the work appears to float effortlessly overhead, translating the movement of water into a delicate, sculptural landscape. Maya Lin frequently reimagines natural systems that oftentimes respond to the immediate site – capturing critical waterways in their entirety- as a drawing in space. Here, the shimmering glass marbles capture and reflect changing light, allowing the work to shift with its surroundings while reinforcing Lin's ongoing exploration of the relationship between the built and natural environments.
